Common Problems Using the LRIG Web Site

Cookies are turned off:

Cookies are alphanumeric identifiers that we transfer to your computer's hard drive through your Web browser to enable our system to recognize your browser and to provide features such as customized membership features. The "help" portion of the toolbar on most browsers will tell you how to prevent your browser from accepting new cookies, how to have the browser notify you when you receive a new cookie, or how to disable cookies altogether. However, cookies allow you to take full advantage of some of our site’s best features, and we recommend that you leave them turned on.

You get an error message that "We were unable to set a cookie on your machine to identify you. Perhaps your browser privacy settings are set to block cookies. Click Here to return to our home page.", and you were previously able to access the site:

You may have a malformed cookie. Go to Internet Explorer / Tools / Internet Options and select the General Tab. Then select Delete Cookies, and try again.

If you do not want to delete ALL your treasured cookies, you can delete just the LRIG cookies. To do this, go to Internet Explorer / Tools / Internet Options and select the General Tab. Then select the Settings button, and the View Files button in the next screen. If you sort the files according to Internet Address, the next step will be easier. Look for the cookies that start with "Cookie:" and end with "@lab-robotics.org" or "@www.lab-robotics.org". You may have one or both in your list. Delete them and try to log in again.

There is a Microsoft FAQ on cookie management at: http://www.microsoft.com/info/cookies.htm

Popups are Disabled:

Popup windows are windows which popup after clicking a link in a window.  If you are registered as a Chapter Secretary or admin, there are some pages you have access to that use popups.  If you don’t see the popup after clicking those links then you may have popups disabled.   The "help" portion of the toolbar on most browsers will tell you how to enable popups.

Browser is Incompatible:

Our site was designed and tested with several of the most recent versions of Microsoft IE and Netscape Navigator since the vast majority of web users are using those browsers.  If your browser version is older than Netscape 4.5 and IE 5.5, or some other browser, you may run across problems.  You may want to consider downloading the latest browser version from the manufacturer.
