Istituto di Ricerche di Biologia Molecolare P. We currently have an opening for an Automation Sr. Analyst ?IRBM000701

in Information Services for Basic Research which will provide for systems integration and agile tool development supporting automated laboratories. This highly skilled, team-oriented position will interface with IRBM scientists to actively identify customer requirements and ensure their understanding of existing tools, projects, and future direction, to meet business ever-changing needs. Candidates need to have experience in laboratory automation systems, a background in laboratory automation (hardware and software), Visual Basic programming, at least three years hands-on experience in Oracle/SQL database development, be knowledgeable in technologies and approaches to software development and engineering, with a proven attitude for working with complex lab automation workflows, the ability to simplify complex processes or problems, and to deliver simple and flexible solutions in a highly dynamic environment.

The responsibilities of this position include:
?Participating as a critical member of the Information Services for Basic Research at IRBM;
?Working with Rome IS, Laboratory Automation and Data Integration (LADI) groups, and with the Laboratory Automation personnel at other MRL research sites to managing software deployments, providing or sourcing training, promoting adoption and continued use of enterprise- and locally licensed applications and platforms, and internally developed applications and databases for IRBM Basic Research;
?Enhancing current automation methods to increase processing capacity, throughput, and robustness;
?Aiding in the development of integration software that connects automation systems with laboratory information systems and operational workflows, such as compound management systems;
?Investigating new automation and other supporting vendors;
?Managing programs and vendors associated with automation projects;
?Providing day-to-day operational support of production systems and problem trouble-shooting and diagnosis;
?Cross-train with other members of the Scientific Projects & Data group, to ensure business continuity and coverage.
Qualifications
? M.S. in Chemical Engineering with specialization in software-intensive scientific systems design and development, or Engineering, Software Engineering, Computational Sciences, Mathematics, or a related field is preferred; or equivalent post-grad full-time work experience
? Few years' experience in software development and systems integration in an industrial environment;
? Experience with laboratory automation systems such as Hamilton Star, PerkinElmer Multiprobe, Beckman FX, Orca system, Thermo Platemate, etc.;
?Experience in software development for at least two of the following: scheduling and control of lab processes in pharma/biotech; robotics with integration experience; scientific instrument integration; liquid handling systems; scientific application development and scientific data capture; quality control and analysis;
? At least 3 years hands-on experience in Oracle/SQL database development;
? Hands-on experience in Web Services and XML;
? Expert-level programming in Visual Basic, and hands-on experience with JAVA;
?Advanced-level technical English knowledge is essential, good oral and written English is highly desirable, as well as Italian or a second major European language;
? Ability to work both in multidisciplinary teams and independently.
