Automation Engineer
A position is available for an Automation Engineer in the high-paced Automation Group at Rosetta's Gene Expression Laboratory in Bothell. This individual will provide systems integration and the development of new automation protocols. The candidate needs to have experience in Beckman Coulter Core system platform; a background in laboratory automation (hardware and software); Visual Basic automation programming; strong analytical capabilities; and familiarity with methods to process RNA, from purification through to hybridization and analysis. This highly skilled, team-oriented individual will interface within the automation team and also with the Methods Development, Process Engineering, LIMS, and Production teams to design and implement new assays for automated sample and microarray processing.

Responsibilities (summary):

- Participate as a critical member of the Automation Team at Rosetta's Gene Expression Laboratory to further the development of automated Gene Expression Microarray protocols
- Aid in the development of integration software using Visual Basic that connects automation systems with laboratory information systems.
- Work with Methods Developers, Process Engineers, and Production personnel to design automation protocols
- Develop automated production protocols for molecular biology assays
- Enhance current automation methods to increase processing capacity, throughput, and robustness
- Investigate new automation and other supporting vendors
- Work with the Production Engineering group to implement and support automation protocols and systems
- Manage programs and vendors associated with Automation projects

Desired Qualifications (summary):

- BS (or equivalent experience) in Engineering or related field
- 3+ years experience in industrial environment
- Program Management experience for development projects
- Strong background in current laboratory automation
- Experience with quality systems, development life cycle and documentation
- Extensive experience with Beckman Coulter and Perkin Elmer Packard Automation platforms
- Programming experience in Visual Basic, C++, SQL and .NET
- Ability to write software to interface with databases and laboratory information systems
- Familiarity with other automation platforms is a plus
- Engineering prototyping and drafting experience a plus
