GLAXOSMITHKLINE
BS or MS degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry or Engineering
7+ years experience in an HTS or industrial automation environment
Excellent computer skills
Knowledge of high throughput screening instrumentation and automation
Thorough knowledge of Biochemistry, Statistics and Robotics
Experience leading an automation support team
Experience with production line automation in a manufacturing facility combined with a knowledge of HTS automation is highly desirable.
In addition to above, PhD degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry or Engineering or equivalent experience
Detailed knowledge and experience in lab automation engineering
Significant experience in management of automation support and operation personnel.

The Department of Molecular Screening is pivotal to the drug discovery process and plays an ever-increasing role in the identification of lead compounds for novel therapeutic targets. This department is responsible for developing innovative new assay technologies and performing high throughput screens for all therapeutic areas within the company, and GSK has made a major commitment to leadership in this area. We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Molecular Screening group at King of Prussia, PA for a highly motivated, customer-driven Instrumentation / Robotics Group Leader.

The successful candidate will play a key role in managing a group of scientists and engineers responsible for specification, deployment, methods development, quality control and troubleshooting of automated systems across the departments of Molecular Screening and Compound Management. These systems include liquid handlers, readers, fully integrated screening systems, cherry-pickers, and an automated liquid store. An emphasis will be placed upon the generation of SOP's that ensure consistently high levels of quality control throughout the operation. Key to the position will be the ability to manage multiple projects deriving from the testing and validation of new technologies for incorporation into existing processes. A thorough scientific understanding of assay configuration / development in the context of miniaturized screening technologies is required. The selected candidate will play a key role in monitoring the transition of development projects into production and will ensure that the operation of our new drug discovery factory is running as effectively as possible. Other necessary components of this job are the ability and desire to work in a team-oriented environment, customer focus and previous experience in leading a scientific group
