I am a recruiter that specializes in the pharmaceutical industry. One of my clients in San Antonio, TX is looking for a LIMS specialist. This is a permanent position within this companies Qulaity Assurance department at the manager level (reporting to the Director of Quality Systems). As the position is new, there is no formal job description just yet. But below are some broad strokes given to me by the VP.For more info, call Ed Ratchford...800-781-4112
This person would need to be extremely familiar with laboratory operations, but have responsibility for software systems in the lab. They do not need to be a programmer or an IT specialist, but need to be able to improve lab operations via implementation of software systems, and be the expert in those systems, assisting with training, and troubleshooting. (IT will retain responsibility for hardware and functionality of the software). An ideal candidate will have experience leading a project of a LIMS installation because that will be a significant responsibility in 2007 time frame.
Their day to day responsibilities would not involve testing, reviewing, releasing, etc. that is typical in lab operations. But the systems they would "own" would facilitate lab sample tracking, general operations, lab scheduling, data acquisition (Empower), preventive maintenance, equipment calibration, chemical standard maintenance, test solution maintenance, etc. In other words, responsible for sourcing, acquiring, installing, and operation of software that supports lab operations.
