Hazards of Chemical Library Storage for High Throughput Screening W. Steven Fillers, Ph.D., TekCel, Inc., Hopkinton, MAMany of the physical parameters affecting chemical storage were recognized long before high throughput screening became a common practice. However, the necessity to rapidly achieve high throughput coupled to the absence of affordable technologies drove most scientists to de-emphasize the importance of long-term compound integrity. Today, HTS libraries, some nearing the decade mark, are replete with evidence of accumulated degradation. The total value of the investment in chemical libraries is generally greater than the total of capital equipment in HTS laboratories. Extending the longevity of the HTS sample collections is, therefore of considerable economic importance. This presentation will review the factors that contribute to chemical degradation and will discuss new technologies that address these obstacles. contact: [email protected]
