Biochemistry position - Torrance, CA

I am assisting to recruit Production Chemists and Technicians for a biochemical company located in Torrance CA. Here are details on the positions:

Company:
An international, technology-based company specializing in the production of innovative biochemical and pharmaceutical compounds. This position is within the division that has scientific know-how in peptide conjugation, antibody production (peptides and proteins) for immunoassay, immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry, kit formulation and iodination of peptides. The company employs approximately 540 motivated and qualified people worldwide.

Position Requirements

Minimum Education:
BS in Chemistry
BS in Biochemistry with Chemistry Minor
BS in Chemical Engineering or Chemical Technology
Technical college degree with focus on chemistry or chemical technology (for technicians only)

Work experience after completion of education:

Relevant work experience for BS candidates:

Peptide synthesis
Preparative HPLC purification of peptides or oligonucleotides
Synthesis of organic compounds
R&D;, kilolab or pilot plant experience in a chemical plant
Peptide analysis using HPLC methods
Production in a Pharmaceutical lab or plant under GMP conditions
Clean room operations for pharmaceutical or cosmetic products
Experience following SOP and procedures, recording/witnessing results in a chemical laboratory
Operation of fermentation tanks, filters and columns
Support in chemical engineering of a pharmaceutical plant

Relevant work experience for candidates without a science degree:

Large scale buffer mixing operations (> 10 Liters)
Medium to large scale compounding (soaps, detergents, cosmetics)
Handling of chemicals in amounts > 10 Liters (solvents, reagents, chemical waste)
Work with aggressive chemicals in protective gear
Receiving, shipping, sampling or inventory control of chemicals
Emergency response
Cleaning of equipment, containers and utensils in a chemical plant or laboratory
Above operations in a GMP facility following SOP and procedures

Work experience during education:

Work experience in a commercial environment and in a timeline-oriented business is more valuable than entertainment related jobs.

Relevant instruments/techniques listed on the resume:

Peptide synthesizer (all makes and models)
Preparative HPLC (all makes and models)
Freeze dryer or lyophilizer
Analytical HPLC
Column chromatography, thick/thin layer chromatography
Ion exchange, size exclusion, affinity chromatography
Rotary evaporation, distillation, crystallization, precipitation
NMR spectroscopy

Entry-level candidates need to be flexible to accommodate a shift schedule. If a more advanced candidate has special skills, exceptions can be made to accommodate curriculum.

Relevance of managerial experience:

Managerial and supervisory experience is most valuable when combined with relevant technical skills and experience in the field.

Supervisor of a R&D; or production team in peptide chemistry or organic chemistry
Laboratory manager in a drug development organization (small or big Pharma)
Supervisor in a pilot plant or production facility
Project manager in a production or drug development organization
Laboratory manager in a small enterprise (research/production/QC together)

A combination of the appropriate technical skills with supervisory experience in a different field could accelerate a promotion from an initial entry level position.
