Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development, L.L.C. develops treatments that improve the health and lifestyles of people worldwide. Research and development areas encompass novel targets in neurologic disorders, gastroenterology, oncology, infectious disease, diabetes, hematology, metabolic disorders, immunologic disorders, and reproductive medicine.

Position Description: Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research and Development (JJPRD) is currently seeking applications from individuals experienced in both chemistry and computer science to join our Automations team in Raritan, NJ. Today, it has become increasingly easy to gather data quickly, however, the organization, analysis, and reporting of that scientific data has provided a new challenge. The successful candidate will play a leading role in solving this challenge. The individual will be in charge of developing and leveraging the chemical knowledge that can help drive our compounds forward through interaction of multiple database infrastructures. Utilizing their knowledge of chemistry and skills in computer science, the successful candidate will help develop an understanding of both chemical and material science aspects of our compounds. The candidate will interact with laboratory scientists on a consistent basis. The individual will devote 70-80% of the time to determining scientific and administrative information flow needs, developing software applications to meet these needs, interfacing these systems with laboratory instrumentation and existing informatic packages, and providing informatics support to the scientists. The individual will be required to work in the lab 10-20%, operating robotic equipment/instrumentation.

Position Qualifications: A minimum of a BS degree with a minimum of 12 years related experience and/or training is required. A MS degree with a minimum of 5 years experience and/or training is preferred. A PhD with a minimum of 3 years related experience and/or training is preferred. A degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or other Chemical Sciences is preferred. A minimum of 3 years of object oriented software development experience in at least one of the following: .NET technologies, Visual Basic, ActiveX, COM, TCP/IP, RS232 protocols, and/or Labview is required. Experience with Cyber Lab, Empower, and other database systems are preferred. Expertise in software development lifecycle, including requirements and design specifications, quality assurance, and release management is preferred. Experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry is preferred. This position requires 10-20% lab work, operating robotic equipment/instrumentation. An understanding of fundamental organic and/or analytical chemistry is required. Literature articles and/or applications developed are required. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are required. Good communication and presentation skills are required. Good organizational and problem-solving skills are required. Ability to work effectively in a team environment is required. 10% travel (Domestic and International) is required.
