At Perlegen Sciences, we conduct genetics research and develop products that impact and improve people lives. Established in March 2001, we are a well-funded, pre-IPO company engaged in exploiting ultra-high-throughput genotyping technology to unravel the genetic architecture of complex traits and bring drugs to market whose clinical development would have otherwise been discontinued. Wee changing forever the way medicine is practiced. See what Perlegen can do for you.

We currently have an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to take responsibility for the programming and maintenance of our laboratory automation. Wel rely on you for robotic assay development, calibration and maintenance of liquid handling robots, the development of protocols for custom in-house fluidic modules, the maintenance and troubleshooting of multiple laboratory robotics platforms (Tecan, Gilson and PerkinElmer/Packard), and for integrating robotics equipment, software and LIMS components. You will also be expected to maintain and improve current applications, develop and set specifications for new automated processes, develop processes to improve equipment performance, and track and provide performance quality control of data generated from these platforms. Other responsibilities include supporting custom (Visual Basic) robotic control software and scripting and training end users to operate equipment and software.

To qualify, you should have a BS in Bioengineering, Engineering, CS or related field and 3+ years of industry experience. An understanding of biology with an aptitude for using and troubleshooting lab robotic equipment, including programming robotics, is essential. Experience with PerkinElmer/Packard robots and programming experience with Visual Basic/Excel VBA in an automation environment is preferred while familiarity with Kloehn/Cavro pump protocol would be a strong plus.
