On September 8, 2005, Biogen Idec Inc. announced a major restructuring of the company. In order to be competitive in the therapeutics area of the marketplace, a business decision was made to consolidate Clinical Sciences and Technology functions within the Cambridge, MA site. As a result, the RTP group was eliminated, and with it, my position as Associate Scientist III/Automation Specialist. My family and I would like to remain in Chapel Hill, so currently I am focusing on trying to obtain a position that will allow us to keep our home here without having to relocate. Please take the time to review the attached materials. By bringing a comprehensive, working knowledge of automation products and an enthusiastic, pace-setting attitude to the table, I believe I would be a committed, high-performing addition to any laboratory automation team.

As an experienced research biologist and expert user of automation platforms with a variety of biotech and biopharmaceutical companies, I have discovered and implemented efficient solutions for moving optimized manual biological and chemical assays from the bench to a variety of automation platforms, resulting in reliable and consistent output. I have also spearheaded a major in-house lab automation project involving sample tracking, audit trails and LIMS integration, enabling me to develop a comprehensive understanding of automated assay workflows and FDA 21 CFR Part 11 compliance issues (see attached ī˜µpeaker Abstract?and biography).

I envision myself being able to contribute to a pre-existing or start-up automation laboratory in several capacities, including: (1) the development, optimization and implementation of automation platforms and application-specific solutions, (2) troubleshooting and fine-tuning existing applications for greater efficiency and throughput using vendor, IT database and LIMS systems, (3) helping to develop and implement new technologies or combinations of existing technologies to improve assay performance and regulatory agency compliance (as fully-electronic systems superceed paper-based and semi-automated workflows) and (4) helping companies to keep pace with competitors by developing newer-generation system solutions to sustain reliable, flexible and user-friendly operations both now and throughout the foreseeable future.

I would hope that you may be able to direct my inquiry and CV/credentials to the appropriate scientific personnel for consideration, if you have an existing laboratory automation program or if you are considering the purchase and implementation of a robotic liqud handling system for your laboratory.
