This is an excellent opportunity to join a newly created company active in the field of sensors and automation for application in the laboratory environment. Resulting from a 50/50 joint venture, the company markets outstanding solutions for specific and identified needs within the healthcare, pharmaceutical and biotechnology
sectors.


The next step would be to devise a marketing and sales plan per product line. The Director BD & PD will consequently be responsible for the actual marketing and sales activities whereby he/she will be supported as needed by the backing company's staff and is expected to give feedback from his market research in order to optimise the technological and product development. The commercialisation of the lab-robot is not just about selling the machine. It is also about establishing relationships with potential buyers in order to identify how the robot can be tailor-made to fulfil the client's needs. In addition to the lab-robot, two other products are being developed. One is a potentiometric sensor for measuring organic ionisable compounds and is expected to become available in 2006. It is now being developed in collaboration with a major pharmaceutical company. The other device is a temperature controller for microplates.


ABOUT THE POSITION

Reporting to the board which consist of 4 members of the two backing companies, the Director BD&PD; initially will be responsible for further validation of the business plan by making a detailed market and customer analyses.

For the time being the Director BD&PD; will be the only Squared Lab employee although support will be given by both backing companies.


ABOUT THE CANDIDATE

This position requires having a strong entrepreneurial spirit and drive. It is important to realise that some of the products are tailor made to customer needs. Although the incumbent needs not be a technical specialist, support by teh backing companies is readily available, he needs to be sufficient comfortable with the products and application.


This is a high profile and complex position, which requires the following skills and expertise:

- An academic degree in life sciences or engineering. An additional business degree would be an advantage

- At least 6-8 years experience in a diagnostics/laboratory equipment/medical device environment

- International business development experience

- Strong Marketing & Sales experience in diagnostics, lab equipment or medical devices

- Well-developed negotiating skills, persuasive and diplomatic abilities.

- Fluent in English, both verbal and in writing, knowledge of another major language would be an asset.
