Job Title: Automation Engineer
Group: Lead Discovery Technologies
Unit: Lead Discovery Center (LDC)
To be Hired: Q1 2005
Employment type: Full-Time

Role:

To work within the Lead Discovery Center (LDC) supporting existing automation platforms and workstations

Key Functions:

?Act as a first line of support for automation and instrumentation within the Lead Discovery Center in Cambridge, MA

?Monitor performance of equipment by implementing QC standard operating procedures. Maintain records of operating performance.

?Coordinate service calls with 3rd party vendors.

?Help streamline and support daily processes within LDC in High Throughput Screening, Compound Management, Preclinical Compound Profiling, Cell Culture and Protein Production.

?Train operators/users of equipment within LDC.


Job Requirements:

?2+ years experience in screening, compound profiling or cell culture.
?2+ years experience using and implementing automated systems including liquid handlers, microplate readers, automated cell culture and screening systems.
?BS or BA in related science or engineering field. Field engineering experience would be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
?Ability to diagnose and remedy both hardware and software problems quickly.
?Knowledge of basic robotic mechanical and electrical components and design.
?Good personal and communication skills. Ability to work well within a team. The individual must understand î™…ustomer focus?and be professional within workplace.
?Individual must be self motivated, reliable, able to prioritize workload.
?Working knowledge of MS Office


Desired Traits & Experience

?Programming language experience is a plus
?Ability to travel when required by Novartis
?Knowledge of following instruments/systems are a plus:
Caliper Twister II and CLARA software; Matrix PlateMate Plus; MDC FLIPR; PerkinElmer Flexdrop, Envision, ViewLux, Trilux; TECAN Genesis liquid handlers, Safire, Gemini Software; V11 Vprep; Thermo CRS CatEx robot and POLARA software; Beckman FX; Kendro or LiCONiC automated incubators; GE LEADseeker; Spotfire Decisionsite; IDBS ActivityBase, XLfit 4
