Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT

Recruitment for Lab Automation Specialist

The Broad Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts is a research collaboration of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University and affiliated hospitals, and the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research. The primary mission of the Broad Institute is to create and apply tools for genomic medicine with an emphasis on the collaborative process.

Description
The Chemical Biology platform is seeking a lab automation specialist to assist with all facets of the operation of its high-throughput screening facility. Specifically, this position will help investigators optimize and run their screening protocols using lab automation, reformat small-molecule libraries, and train investigators on a wide variety of instrumentation. The position also has a research and development component that includes engineering software to run screening instruments, integrating new software with existing software in order to coordinate the interactions of multiple instruments, writing computer programs to operate screening instruments, and new product research. The ideal candidate will possess the aptitude for diagnosing and correcting general mechanical problems within the lab, be familiar with non-relational databases, and be able to work independently and as part of a team. This position provides a rich environment in which to learn about biotechnology and the process of high-throughput screening.

Requirements
B.A. or B.S. in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering or a related field. Two or more years of related work experience. Experience in the use and integration of laboratory robots for high throughput screening and knowledge of Visual Basic (or other computer languages) desired. Familiarity with PC computer systems and Microsoft Office software. Good communication skills, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for basic biological research. Previous programming experience is a plus.
