Automation Systems Specialist I- Bioanalytical Assay Support

Genentech is the founder of the biotechnology industry and among the world leading biotech companies. We are instrumental in all areas of drug development from research and development to manufacturing and commercialization. We are currently seeking a Automation Systems Specialist I for our South San Francisco corporate headquarters.

Description:
The Automation System Specialist will act as part of a team that identifies, implements, validates, and maintains state of the art laboratory automation (including LIMS) to support bioanalytical analysis of clinical and non-clinical samples at Genentech. This
individual will utilize creativity, strong technical skills, teamwork, knowledge of computer system validation, and a customer focus to deliver the best solutions to the user group. Initial training will include running assays manually so that the System
Specialist will have a start-to-finish view of the department automation needs.

Responsibilities to include (individually or as a team):
-Identify, evaluate, and purchase new automated equipment or software
systems to support lab operations
-Create requirements for the system
-Install and configure the system. This involves activities such as
learning the software, optimizing liquid handling parameters,
teaching robot positions, defining user access, etc. . .
-Create high-quality system documentation such as SOPs, User Manuals,
and Training materials
-Train end users
-Work with cross-functional teams to plan and execute the validation
phase of the project
-Perform system administrator duties for 2-3 system

This position will require occasional work with bio hazardous, cytotoxic, and radioactive materials, using appropriate safety precautions.

Desired Qualifications:
Success in this dynamic position will require the application of four broad skills: hands-on automation experience (both mechanical and software), an understanding of computer systems validation, good judgment, and an understanding of the needs of a regulated
laboratory.

Experience with Watson LIMS or experience with off-the-shelf laboratory automation systems such as Tecan Genesis, Hamilton AT Plus2, or PerkinElmer Multiprobe desired. Experience with computer system validation, GXP regulations, bioanalytical methods such as ELISA, or project management principles also desired.

Requirements:
2-3 years experience in a regulated laboratory environment and a proven aptitude for laboratory automation. The candidate must posses a customer-oriented approach that puts the needs of the end user first. Attention to detail, the ability to write clearly, and
teamwork skills are a must.
