Director, Clinical Chemistry

A client of ours in San Diego, CA is seeking a Director of Clinical Chemistry. Founded in 1996 and with over 100 employees, they develop and manufacture a broad range of lateral flow rapid diagnostic tests that are very high quality and competitively priced.

The incumbent will be responsible for managing and directing the staff for clinical chemistry-related product development for medical diagnostic applications, and providing technical guidance and project direction for development to the direct reports and other personnel in the group. In addition, the incumbent will coordinate clinical chemistry diagnostic product R&D; activities with China R&D; activities to provide uniform processes and capabilities for product development.

The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring compliance of the product development process and activities to FDA and ISO practices; managing resource allocation to project teams; providing performance reviews; providing technical support to Manufacturing for ongoing production; managing the department budget; working closely with groups in the company to ensure effective product development processes; and developing staffing plans and hiring staff, as appropriate.

Requirements:
Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Bioengineering or related field
Minimum 10 years experience in related product development for clinical chemistry
Strong knowledge of various clinical chemistry test techniques, including electrochemical enzyme assays, spectroscopic techniques and dry reagent chemistry
Strong working knowledge in reagent requirements and development
Experience in managing multiple projects
Familiarity with structured product development processes, including requirement analysis, design control process, design documentation and product verification/validation
