NIH Chemical Genomics Center

The NIH Chemical Genomics Center (NCGC) is a new facility within the National Human Genome Research Institute and is the first in a network of screening centers being developed as part of the NIH Roadmap for Medical Research (see http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/reprint/304/5678/1728a.pdf). The NCGC will use the tools of small molecule screening and discovery to develop chemical probes for studying molecular and biological processes relevant to physiology and disease.?The Center will perform automated high-throughput screening (HTS) on biological assays submitted by the biomedical research community, carry out chemistry optimization on confirmed hits to produce chemical probes, and disseminate the data and probes via PubChem, a new division of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI).?The NCGC Informatics Division will create and operate a state-of-the-art informatics support and research platform, and apply these tools to the discovery and characterization of the chemical probes. The data intensive nature of the effort will require an informatics group capable of handling large volumes of data obtained from production screening, as well as addressing the needs of individual researchers in the analysis of data from all stages of assay optimization and probe discovery.?In addition, the group will coordinate data storage and mining with NCBI and the informatics groups of the other screening centers. ?br>?br>The NCGC is seeking a highly qualified individual to join the Informatics Division to lead the design, building, and maintenance of a robust and flexible informatics infrastructure to support all aspects of the Center?s functions. These functions include data collection from automated high-throughput screens, building and maintaining databases for chemical compound registration and tracking, and working with Center scientists in analyzing large datasets.?The successful candidate will be highly motivated, hands on, and comfortable seeking solutions to unanticipated problems.?Extensive experience with one or more programming languages is essential.?Informatics experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or chemical industries is desired.
?br>The NCGC will be a unique and exciting environment employing technologies on the cutting edge of informatics, small molecule screening, and chemical genomics. NCGC members will have the opportunity to develop rewarding collaborations with leading academic laboratories throughout the country.?
?br>Interested applicants should send a resume and three letters of recommendation to [email protected] or mail to
