SUMMARY
Works independently with minimum supervision/guidance, in conjunction with the project team to implement Laboratory Automation Robotic Systems according to Caliper Integrated Systems process. Will help develop, implement and support new and existing technology as it relates to Caliper automated systems. Performs system design engineering assignments of wide complexity for the design and development of hardware and software for robotic systems, including developing test scripts. Performs tasks in the design, development and implementation for non-routine software engineering applications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following is a listing of the results/accomplishments expected in performing the job and the job's essential or most important functions and responsibilities by which people achieve the results.

1. Understands requirements of Project Manager, Design Engineer and customer and develops hardware and software specifications to fulfill project needs and determine a project schedule.

2. Maintains planned schedules and informs the team of any deviations to the project schedule.

3. Participates in the design review to finalize the system specifications and project schedule with the customer.
4. Integrates Laboratory Automation software with hardware at several levels with minimum supervision.

5. Integrates module level software and hardware into the robotic system.

6. Integrates the application software to the robotic system.

7. Debugs hardware and software issues at the module, system and application level.

8. Develops test scripts.

9. Provides required information to the project manager to develop the system documentation.

10. Reviews the application, hardware and software and performs system testing as defined in the specifications to achieve Factory Acceptance of a completed system.

11. Provides support as necessary to validation personnel in the development of validation documentation.

12. Begins training the customer on the use of the system during Factory Acceptance to ensure technology transfer and system ownership to the customer.

13. Installs the system in the customer lab, runs functionality testing, and completes the technology transfer to complete the development cycle of the system. Coaches System Integrator 1 to support installations of completed systems.

14. Produces various documentation as required for User Level Documentation on Automated systems.

15. Proactively communicates with the project team regarding development, testing, and current status of system under development.

16. Communicates effectively with customer and keeps project managers informed of all communications with the customer.

17. Requires 25% travel domestic or worldwide.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, preferably in Computer Science or Chemistry. Three to four years related experience in automated systems integration and/or training required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Understanding of electromechanical equipment and experience with Laboratory Automation equipment. Desirable: Expertise in programming with Visual Basic as well as the ability to develop and integrate robotic systems and lab equipment. Experience with Object based programming in Visual Basic.
