Scripps Florida is currently seeking a Compound Manager to join the Lead Identification / Drug Discovery Department.
COMPOUND MANAGER-LEAD ID DEPARTMENT
(Palm Bch. Cty., FL)
Duties & Responsibilities: Manage all aspects of Scripps?high throughput screening (HTS) small-molecule compound collection, running the day-to-day operations of a state-of-the art compound management laboratory. Set up protocols & supervise processes for sample registration, replication, retrieval and distribution among your customers: HIS scientists, medicinal chemists and pharmacologists. Duties will include operation, maintenance & troubleshooting of a fully automated compound management system. Manage relationships with external compound vendors. Utilize a variety of data management software systems & databases to generate, analyze, and report information relevant to your operation. Anticipate future compound management operational needs and critically evaluate and champion new technologies as necessary. Lead & directly manage a group of 1-3 technical staff.
Requires: Masters degree in a science or engineering discipline required (PhD preferred) with a Medicinal Chemistry background preferred. At least two years successful experience working in a compound management group with emphasis on compound inventory & database management. At least 3 years ands-on?experience maintaining calibrating and operating robotic workstations. Experience with Microsoft Windows, Office, Access & Project software, as well as Oracle Databases, SQL and basic programming skills. Strong communication, interpersonal, teamwork and project management skills. Direct experience with writing user requirement specifications & working vendors to validate custom automation. Demonstrated ability to work with and manage technical and scientific human resources. Although not required, practical knowledge and/or experience using liquid chromatography (LC) mass-spectroscopy (MS), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) methods to determine sample purity & structure would be useful.
