The AutoChem SBU is a growing, strategic, high profile business within METTLER TOLEDO. Role:
Reporting to the General Manager, you will lead and develop a team of Engineers and Scientists involved in product development of instrumentation sold to pharmaceutical and biotech Drug Discovery scientist worldwide. You will provide hands-on technical leadership for mechanical design engineers, electronic design engineers, software engineers, and scientists. Your team will be developing the next generation of laboratory solutions to compliment our existing range of innovative products.

Responsibilities will include:
- Provide technical and commercial leadership to the hardware, software and firmware team.
- Show a passion for technology that inspires others to innovate.
- Utilize formal project management tools and a formal, structured Product Development process with the goal of delivering projects on time and within budget. Develop, promote and enforce the established product development procedures.
- Work with Project Leaders to analyze complex problems to help them identify creative, logical, and effective solutions.
- Mentor and motivate multidisciplinary project teams led by your project leaders.
- Manage formal staff development and appraisal procedures.
- Coordinate the development activities with other commercial and operational groups to maximize the success of development projects.
- Working with our Sales and Marketing groups, you will meet with external customers to discuss future product needs.
- Some travel is required to customer sites and other METTLER TOLEDO locations. There will be international travel.

Education/Experience Requirements:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, a Masters degree is a plus.
- A minimum of 8 + years of leadership experience in a structured product development environment of laboratory instruments.
- Proven track record of rapid product development of commercially successful products.
- An experienced leader of multidisciplinary development teams of technical professionals.
- Demonstrated success leading, motivation, building morale and teamwork; delivering new products on time while meeting budget, and delivery commitments.
- Hands on knowledge of electro-mechanical instrument or robotic design, ideally multi-axis robotics, CAN architecture and PC based control systems.
- Solid knowledge in using 3D CAD systems, preferably ProEngineer for mechanical and OrCAD for electronics.
- Experience working with surface mount and conventional PCB design.
- Business-wide process experience to manage fast to market product development.
- Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
