The J. Craig Venter Institute is a Rockville, Maryland based not-for-profit research institution dedicated to the advancement of the science of genomics; the understanding of its implications for society; and the communication of those results to the scientific community, the public, and policymakers. We are looking for a Laboratory Maintenance Engineer who would be responsible for preventative maintenance and repairs to a variety of laboratory equipment. Uses working knowledge of laboratory equipment such as electrical circuits, motors and controls, troubleshoots and diagnoses all types of laboratory equipment malfunctions, and performs related preventative maintenance and repairs. Performs and tracks laboratory equipment maintenance and responds to laboratory equipment failures and repair requirements. Maintains accurate documentation of equipment status. Assists in the validation of new equipment and automation and provides feedback on how to utilize equipment efficiently and effectively. Requirements include B.S. in Engineering, Laboratory Science, Mathematics; or equivalent experience along with a minimum of three years experience working with laboratory instrumentation maintenance (or equivalent experience required); strong interpersonal skills, ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and external contacts; and the ability to work as an effective team member.
