Responsibilities: The Automation Technology group is seeking an individual to fill a role on its expanding team. The candidate will join other members in working with the Biotechnology program teams to evaluate and implement process changes that will improve efficiency and reduce ergonomic burden. The candidate should have a working knowledge of laboratory automation processes and be comfortable working independently with the customer as a project manager to analyse a current process, propose improvements, implement and validate the solution. The successful candidate must have a strong attention to detail and will routinely participate in experimental design, data analysis, and troubleshooting. The candidate will be expected to provide Visual Basic and SQL (Oracle) programming support for multiple projects. This usually entails integration with external equipment, vendor applications and laboratory information systems. The candidate should be comfortable spending a majority of time programming on new projects or enhancing the capabilities of legacy systems. The candidate must have the vision to question the status quo appropriately as many solutions will require the integration of new protocols, equipment and technology. A high level of multitasking ability over several projects is expected. The candidate will be expected to work projects at both St. Louis sites (Chesterfield and Creve Coeur).

Required Skills: The ideal candidate will have a BS degree in biology, engineering or computer science with at least 3 years of research laboratory experience and 3 years software development experience in a Visual Basic environment. The candidate should have experience in automated systems integration with robotics, liquid handling, and related automation equipment. A mechanical aptitude for design of precision mechanisms is highly desired. The candidate should be a creative thinker, be self-motivated to work independently and possess strong project management, leadership, and communication skills.
