khristine Clinical Laboratory Scientist

I am assisting to recruit a Clinical Laboratory Scientist for a biotechnology company located in the south San Francisco area. There is also a Technician position available.

SUMMARY
Performs highly complex diagnostic procedures on clinical specimens.

NOTE
Clinical Laboratory Scientists that have 7 or more years of technical experience may act as Lead Techs in the absence of a Supervisor and will have the responsibility to make technical decisions as required.

DESCRIPTION:
Supervises unlicensed laboratory staff and clinical laboratory scientists in training.
Coordinates with other clinical laboratory scientists, including coordinators for safety and quality control.
Follows Standard Operating Procedures for specimen processing, performing test procedures, data
analysis and reporting test results.
Performs appropriate QA/QC procedures.

Operates and maintains equipment and instruments according to manufacturer and VCRL established procedures including:
Analysis of clinical specimens
Calibration
Preventive maintenance
Troubleshooting

May be appointed to oversee specialized processes or appointed to a unique coordinating role, such as safety or QC.
Actively participates in continuing education and in service training programs for licensure.
Participates in drafting and developing Standard Operating Procedures.
Reagent Preparation
May participate in development of new assays and technology transfer from research in to development
May participate in vendor/product evaluation
Reviews and Reports Data from VLPS
Understands Clinical Laboratory Technician role and is able to provide technical guidance.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Continuous exposure to specimens and material considered infectious and/or bio-hazardous.
Moderate lifting/bending, walking/time on feet.
Operation of electrical equipment/instruments containing heating and freezing components, moving parts, and high speed centrifugation.
Use and wearing of protective garments and equipment.
Work schedule may be modified to meet operational requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS
BS/BA in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory and laboratory training/experience in specialties related to molecular biology, virology, and /or tissue culture.
Requires current State of California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
Strong verbal and written communications skills are necessary.
Good understanding of statistical methods and application to the analysis of complex assays.
Ability to work in a collaborative, flexible environment.
Strong computer skills and attention to detail are required.
