Batch Agitation Method
Procedure
- Determination of solubility over time is accomplished by adding an excess amount* of lead compound into solution to allow for supersaturation
- Solutions are kept at a constant temperature
- Stirring of solutions can be accomplished by:
- Shaker
- Stir Plate
- Wrist arm shakers
- Samples are periodically removed over a period of time
- Samples are then analyzed by UV or HPLC to determine concentration of lead compound present in the solution
- A plot of concentration vs time is used to determine the solubility of the lead compound
Other solubility determining methods:
- generator column method
- visual method
-
An excess amount of compound is the amount needed to supersaturate the solution. Otherwise solubility measurements will be erroneous
