SouthEast LRIG

Dear Applicants,

We would like to congratulate all of you in taking part in the FIRST Competition in Richmond this year.  It is very impressive and encouraging to see young people taking an interest in something as important as robotics and automation.  In addition, we would like thank all of the teachers and mentors for taking the time to be a part of this experience and education.  Finally, thanks to those who took the time to complete and send in your Sponsorship Application forms to LRIG SouthEast.

As you are all aware from a previous email, our committee was to review all of the applications received and a winner of the sponsorship determined and announced by this date. In determining a winner, our committee looked at the following criteria, not necessarily in order of importance:

1) Financial need - amounts received compared to amounts requested

2) Responses to specific application questions

3) Number of members in the club

4) Students own fund raising efforts

5) Distance of high school to Regional and National Competitions

After long review and discussion, we have come to a decision on the winner of the 2008 LRIG SouthEast Robotics Club Sponsorship Competition.  At this time, we would like to congratulate the winner of our sponsorship competition, Grundy High School Robotics Club from Grundy, VA.  It was a difficult decision because there were a number of clubs that provided us with well thought-out responses.  Based on all the criteria mentioned above however, Grundy High School Robotics Club demonstrated that they have a clear vision and plan for promoting education in the discipline of automation and robotics. So congratulations to Grundy High School Robotics Club!

A sponsorship check in the amount of $750.00 will be sent to Grundy High School Robotics Club during the week of February 11th, 2008 and if they qualify for the National Competition in Atlanta, GA, an additional check will be sent in the amount of $1250.00.

Previous LRIG SouthEast Sponsorship Winners:

2003 - Orange High School Robotics Club - Hillsborough, NC

2004 - Lloyd C. Bird High School Robotics Club - Chesterfield, VA

2005 - Southampton High School Robotics Club - Courtland, VA

2006 - Benedictine High School Robotics Club - Richmond, VA

2007 – Atlee High School Robotics Club – Mechanicsville, VA

Once again we would like to thank all of you for being a part of FIRST and for your application submission.  We plan to have this sponsorship available next year and will advertise this on our website:

Good luck to all of you in March and we wish you a safe and prosperous 2008!

Kind regards,
