Bionutrients in Bioproduction: A New Dimension in Cell Culture

Venkatesh Gopal, Ph.D., Area Business Manager/Advanced Bioprocessing, BD Biosciences, venkatesh_gopal@bd.com, (408) 996-0860

Cell culture has become an integral part of research and development, and more so in the production of biologically active biomolecules. While Fetal Bovine Serum has been a choice additive in cell culture, safety concerns has driven the market to look for alternatives that do not compromise productivity and are safer and cheaper. The presentation will cover the role of bionutrients as additives in cell culture that increase yield, safety and speed. Also, a brief outline of how we at BD AB use automation to develop DOEs to pick the best media composition for specific cell lines.
