Mahesh Merchant, Ph.D.

Mahesh Merchant is an Associate Professor in the Laboratory Informatics Graduate Program at IUPUI. He specializes in scientific data management, bioinformatics, chemical informatics and GLP validation of Laboratory Informatics Management Systems (LIMS). Prior to accepting an academic position, he worked for eight years at Pharmacia Corp. in the Bioinformatics/Information Technology group. His primary responsibility at Pharmacia was to develop databases and new tools for data mining. He integrated Laboratory Informatics Management Systems (LIMS) for acquisition, analysis, and archiving of DNA-microarray chips and 3-D protein crystal structures. He also implemented a system for global pharmaceutical supply that required GLP validation. Prior to joining Pharmacia Corp., he worked at Physio Corp. for four years to help develop a multi-lead electrocardiographic system for detection of Ischemia and CAD. This system was developed with other colleagues while holding a faculty position at the University of Utah. From 1983 to 1989, Dr. Merchant worked as a software engineer to develop a planetarium system and a high-end flight simulator at Evans and Sutherland in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Dan Kasun

Dan is an Architect/Developer Evangelist on the Microsoft National Architecture Team, and manages a team of developers architects in the Eastern US. He is responsible for interacting with customers at all levels on application architecture issues, and working with customer developer groups to broaden the adoption of .NET technologies. He has been with Microsoft for nine years, dealing with application development issues ranging from desktop/Office development to mutli-tier transactional systems. For the last three years Dan has been primarily working with customers in the financial services and healthcare industry to assist them in the implementation of .NET as a solutions platform.

Prior to Microsoft, Dan spent 5 years at a large US-based insurance company as a developer and analyst for PC-based OSes and hardware. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Lehigh University.
